Acupuncture & Traditional Chinese Medicine

An ancient framework, a thoroughly modern approach to your care.

Acupuncture is a natural and increasingly popular form of healthcare that can assist in the management of a wide range of complaints, as well as supporting general wellbeing. Very fine, sterile, single-use needles are placed at specific points on the body to influence how it regulates itself. At True Health it sits within the broader framework of Traditional Chinese Medicine, which considers your sleep, digestion, stress and energy alongside whatever brought you in.

What is Acupuncture?
How It Works

Your first session is a genuine consultation. Our Head of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) takes a detailed history — not just your symptoms but your patterns — before developing a treatment plan. Needling itself is far gentler than a lot of people expect: the needles are roughly the thickness of a hair, and many patients describe a dull heaviness or warmth rather than pain. Many find the session itself deeply relaxing. Depending on your presentation, treatment may also draw on adjunct Chinese medicine techniques such as cupping, moxibustion or acupressure.

Is Acupuncture Right for You?
What We Commonly See:

Nervous about needles? You’re in good company — it’s the most common question we’re asked, and most first-timers are surprised by how little they feel. Call us on 03 9578 4912 and we’ll happily talk you through it beforehand.

What to Expect During Your Session

Allow a little extra time for your initial consultation, as the history-taking is thorough. You’ll usually rest comfortably with the needles in place for around 20 to 30 minutes — many patients tell us it’s the calmest part of their week. Afterwards you may feel relaxed or pleasantly tired, so it’s worth drinking water and taking it gently for the rest of the day.

Let your practitioner know if you’re pregnant, taking any medications, supplements or herbs, or have had recent surgery.
